Handsome
boys wrestle nude on the fresh green grass. The country landscape of Italy
is an invitation to adventure - a body bathed in sunshine and painted
with lipstick and sexual desire. Perfecting the experimental techniques
in his first film, Scars, Director James Herbert brings forth a
masterpiece of romantic impressionism in this his second feature.
And
he positions the spectator in the midst of an intense sexual relationship,
not only between the characters in the film, but also with its formal
elements.
Carter
and Andy are two young Americans on holiday in Italy. It is summer, and
they divide their time between an apartment in the city and a studio in
the country - a trajectory they invariably cover by bicycle. They spend
their afternoons with Italian girls discovering sensuality and pleasure
- always nude, to show their beautiful physique.
The
dialogs are few and far between and used only to produce moments of verbal
intimacy, which accentuates the all-present nudity of the characters.
This is a tribute to Pier Paolo Pasolini's film-making with a combination
of elements (colors, music, framework, and editing) that transports us
on an inebriating sensual journey.
